    April 26, 2019 /12 Comments

Jetsetting as a solo woman can be a terrifying thought. Will I get mugged? Will I make friends? Is it dangerous? What if my life becomes a real-life reenactment of the Taken movie? Hey there, I'm Abbie

A 20-something Aussie girl in the midst of a never-ending love affair with the world. I fell in love with travel at the age of 18 and have since then visited 30+ countries, graduated university with a writing degree, moved to Canada to live out my dreams of being surrounded by snow, and am writing my first novel! It’s the ocean life for me 🐢🐢This trip h It’s the ocean life for me 🐢🐢This trip has been wilder than I ever imagined. From turtles 🐢 literally everywhere I go, to swimming with sharks 🦈, to random seagull dances, to being almost attacked by a goana, to waking up to a mouse 🐁 on my bed at 5am 🙃🙃- life is a wild, crazy journey and I’m here for it (although I’ll happily pay someone to remove the mouse). 🐭🐭But hey, look how cute this guy is 🐢🐢

Nothing makes me happier than the open road... 🚗🚗🚗My sister, who is joining me for a week of travel, and I are 1 hour from a potential Covid outbreak 🦠🦠and since Queensland has barely had any this past year, it’s a little stressful! This time last year we were quarantining together after both returning from Canada. I was living there and she had come over to visit me and have a holiday, and both our plans got ruined by the outbreak. The last year has been so easy for us in North Queensland, with barely any risk so it has been crazy to learn that masks have become mandatory for a few days in all of Queensland! It is a great reminder that this pandemic is very real and still happening.I hope everyone is wearing their masks and social distancing 😷😷
Favourite place on Earth with my favourite creatur Favourite place on Earth with my favourite creature 🐢One of my big goals this year was to see more turtles. To swim with them, watch them hatch, and just look at turtles in the water. 🐢🐢It sounds like such a random goal- but these are my favourite animal and i have always admired them. From their long journeys at sea, to the way they can live both above and below the water, and how those lucky enough to survive to adulthood are literally one in a thousand. It’s always been a bucketlist goal of mine to swim with turtles and watch nests hatch, and this year I wanted to make it come true.I’ve been travelling for two weeks and already I’ve snorkelled with a turtle, seen dozens on a reef trip, seen several from a lookout point, and I have seen 3 random river turtles crossing highways despite there being no water around. It’s amazing (and weird) how these things can come true but I am so glad I’ve set out on a journey to make them happen! Here’s to spending the next few weeks chasing more and more 🐢🐢
What do you do to escape? 🌲📚💪🏻🧘🏻 What do you do to escape? 🌲📚💪🏻🧘🏻‍♀️My head was spinning a million miles an hour just one hour before this picture was taken. In fact- I was mid panic attack- for no apparent reason. My anxiety was flaring 🔥 bad, and I knew I needed an outlet. What the gym 💪🏻 or reading 📖 usually is for me is a form of meditation 🧘🏻‍♀️, but it was 11am and I was in the middle of nowhere and needed to leave my campgrounds for the day... so neither of those things were an option. So I headed to the rainforest- to a gorge in the middle of nowhere. There were no people. No sounds other than the delicious call of nature 🌲 and trickling streams. The air was fresh on my skin, and I breathed and breathed and breathed, hiking up and back in less than half the time it says it will take- and all to calm the chaos inside.I don’t often talk about my anxiety, nor do I hear people talk about theirs. But it shouldn’t be that way. It’s a part of life- as much me as the beating of my heart. And I am sick of feeling so ashamed and embarrassed by it.Anxiety lives within the majority of us, and it’s okay to need outlets to calm it. To need moments of quiet. To hike in the rainforest with no one else for miles around just so you can breathe again. What do you find helps when you’re feeling anxious?
