Cherry Blossom Season in Japan

April 27, 2017 · In: Asia, Destinations, Japan, Travel

For just a few weeks every spring, Japan celebrates an annual ritual known as hanami or Cherry Blossom Season.

When the Japan Weather Association’s annual sakura forecast is broadcasted live, it brings with it a flurry of domestic and international bookings as travellers rush to make the most of the country’s stunning landscapes and scenery.
Given the size and geographical spread of the country, the cherry blossoms -or sakura- appear at different times and usually only last for a few days.
Here are some of my favourite places I got to see the Cherry Blossoms in Japan!

In theory, it’s a simple pleasure, namely stopping to view and appreciate the beautiful spring blossoms — most commonly known as Cherry Blossoms. In reality, it’s a hugely symbolic and much-loved source of national pride; a chance to recognise and reflect on the beauty of nature while welcoming the new season. Locals celebrating the Cherry Blossoms often gather and sit under the trees, bringing food, drinks and occasionally music. This being Japan, everything is perfectly organized — and left spotlessly clean.
This year, I was one of the millions of travellers who made their way to Japan in the height of the Cherry Blossom Season. And man, it was worth it. Walking through parks that looked like they’d been taken from a fairytale and rowing down moats flanked by these beautiful pink blossoms was like stepping into an alternate universe made entirely of fairy- floss flowers.

I’ve been obsessed with books and writing since I was a child and have never really wavered in knowing it’s what I want to do for the rest of my life.

I thrived in school, always loving assessment and reading and especially my English subjects and was sad when it was over.

So I did my undergrad in Creative Writing and History… all while travelling to 30+ countries and writing my first novel. It took me 4 years to finish a 3 year degree but I managed to achieve so much while studied and falling in love with writing and literature after a little break after high school.

And then I moved to Melbourne to do my Masters in Creative Writing, Editing and Publishing while writing my other two novels, dealing with grief, growing up, and planning a wedding. It was a wild 3 years of being a student but it’s also been so much fun and so rewarding too.

Study has always been a huge enjoyment to me. It’s always been a lifeline and a thing I found easy. I’ve loved every second of being a student, especially my time at Melbourne Uni. I’m terrified for what life will look like post-student life, but also SO excited for what’s to come.

Bring on graduation 👩🏻‍🎓👩🏻‍🎓
